Sheff G walked into Brooklyn State Supreme Court on Wednesday morning and commenced serving a five-year jail time period tied to a sweeping gang conspiracy case that prosecutors say fueled lethal violence throughout New York City.

The 25-year-old rapper, born Michael Williams, was taken into custody at 9 A.M. after pleading responsible in March to tried homicide and conspiracy costs.

His sentence follows a significant takedown involving 32 alleged members of the “8-Trey Crips” and “9 Ways Gang” in a 140-count indictment.

“If Sheff said something, it happened,” NYPD Assistant Chief of Detectives Jason Savino mentioned in the course of the investigation. “A simple text, ‘We got to get a big one,’ created a war.”

Prosecutors initially pushed for a 20-year sentence, but the judge reduced it to five years, citing a lack of evidence that Sheff G was ever a “trigger puller.”

He can even serve 5 years of post-release supervision.

Sheff G joined the 83 Gangsta Crips at age 12 and had beforehand served time earlier than specializing in music.
